Advisory Committee on International Safety
Standards (ACISS)
IAEA draft Safety Standards are submitted to member states for
comments.
In accordance with the PNRA Ordinance III-2001 Section 14, Chairman
PNRA has constituted an Advisory Committee on International Safety
Standards (ASISS) to review the IAEA draft documents with the objective
to see if the IAEA Standards are applicable to the developing countries
specially Pakistan. This review is done independently from the review
done by PNRA technical Directorates. ACISS also advise PNRA on actions
needed to adopt and implement these standards.
Advisory Committee on Research & Development (ACRD)
In accordance with the PNRA Ordinance III-2001 Section 14, Chairman
PNRA has constituted an Advisory Committee on Research and Development
(ACRD) to perform the functions as prescribed under Section 16 (2)
k of this Ordinance.
The creation of the ACRD signifies PNRA’s commitments towards
Research and Development as a part of its responsibilities in R&D
in close co-operation with scientific community, public universities
and other stakeholders for the benefit of the safety in nuclear
installations and radiation facilities. The main goals for R&D
activities are:
• to identify research topics in the fields of nuclear energy,
applications of ionizing radiation and management of radioactive
waste;
• to bring together national research institutes in the country
to collaborate on the research topic of interest for the benefit
of nuclear and radiation safety;
• to improve the legislative framework of PNRA by using the
results of R&D activities ;
• to prioritise PNRA’s strategic goals;
• to strengthen the engineered safety features of NPPs;
• to impart training to young scientists on the issues of
radiation protection, application of ionizing radiation in medicine,
management of radioactive waste and nuclear safety.
