Regional Nuclear Safety Directorate-III (RNSD-III), is responsible
for controlling; regulating and enforcing nuclear safety and radiation
protection measures in Region-III (Sindh and Balochistan). The main
responsibilities of RNSD-III are:
a. Routine or
un-planned or reactive inspections. KANUPP in addition to reviews
of design modifications, event reports, technical
specifications etc.
b. Oral and operating
examinations of KANUPP personnel and issuance of operating personnel
licences.
c. Inspection,
enforcement and licensing of all radiation facilities (other than
NPP) such as industries using radioactive sources/radiation
generators for gauging, radiography, material analysis, etc. nuclear
medical centers (using radionuclides for diagnostic/ treatment and
radiotherapy) and hospitals (using X-ray machines for diagnostic
purposes).
d. Provide public
brochures, warning signs and other literature to create awareness
of radiation protection in general public and radiation workers
and conduct training courses for licensee radiation workers and
management.
e. Establish an
Emergency Control Center and conduct Emergency drills at radiation
facilities and Nuclear Power Plants on regular basis.
f. Maintain an
up to date inventory of SRS and X-ray generator in Sindh and Balochistan.
g. Verify shielding
calculations for radiotherapy, nuclear medicine and diagnostic X-ray
facilities.
h. Issuance of
No Objection Certificates (NOC) for import/export of radioactive
sources and other radiation generation equipment for medical and
industrial purposes.
i. Perform radiometric
analysis of edible and non-edible items and issue radiation free
certificates for import and export.
